As we transition from winter to spring, the road conditions change drastically. The winter season causes a lot of wear and tear on our roads, leaving behind thousands of new potholes that can damage our vehicles' suspension system. Your car's suspension system plays a crucial role in ensuring your safety and providing you with a smooth ride. It's important to inspect and replace your shocks and struts, especially after a harsh winter, to keep your vehicle running smoothly and avoid any potential safety hazards.

Common Reasons Your Check Engine Light Is On

It might be tempting to ignore the light if your car seems to be running fine, but it’s your vehicle’s way of asking for help. Here are some of the most common causes:

           1. Loose or Damaged Gas Cap

Believe it or not, something as simple as a loose gas cap can trigger the check engine light. The gas cap helps maintain pressure in the fuel system and prevents vapors from escaping.

           2. Faulty Oxygen Sensor

This sensor monitors how much oxygen is in your car’s exhaust. A malfunctioning O2 sensor can cause poor fuel economy and increased emissions.

           3. Malfunctioning Catalytic Converter

The catalytic converter helps reduce harmful emissions. If it fails, your car may run poorly and pollute more, and it could eventually damage the engine.

           4. Bad Spark Plugs or Ignition Coils

These components ignite the fuel-air mixture in your engine. If they’re faulty, your engine might misfire or run roughshod.

           5. Mass Airflow Sensor Failure

This sensor helps the engine manage fuel injection based on the amount of air entering the engine. If it fails, your car may stall or hesitate during acceleration.

           6. Issues with the EVAP System

The Evaporative Emissions Control System (EVAP) prevents fuel vapors from escaping. A leak or fault in this system can cause the light to come on.

           check engine light is flashing

, it typically means there’s a severe engine misfire that could damage your catalytic converter.

           Don’t ignore a flashing light.

Pull over safely and call a mechanic—this could prevent a minor issue from becoming a costly repair.

Can I Drive with the Check Engine Light On?

Yes, but only sometimes. If the light is steady and your car seems to drive normally, you may be safe to drive a short distance, preferably to an auto repair shop. But keep in mind:

You may be getting reduced fuel efficiency.

You might be emitting more pollutants.

You could be doing long-term damage to your vehicle.

If the light is blinking or your car runs rough,

As we transition from winter to spring, the road conditions change drastically. The winter season causes a lot of wear and tear on our roads, leaving behind thousands of new potholes that can damage our vehicles' suspension system. Your car's suspension system plays a crucial role in ensuring your safety and providing you with a smooth ride. It's important to inspect and replace your shocks and struts, especially after a harsh winter, to keep your vehicle running smoothly and avoid any potential safety hazards.

Automatic transmission fluid is essential for your car's transmission to function properly. Your vehicle won't run smoothly without enough fluid, which can lead to expensive repairs or total transmission failure.

           What Is Transmission Fluid?

Transmission fluid helps keep moving parts lubricated and cools the system while driving. It also makes gear changes smooth and powers parts like the torque converter, which allows power to flow effortlessly from the engine to the wheels.

fluid is important, and each car needs a specific type of fluid for its transmission system to work properly.

Over time, transmission fluid can wear out due to heat and use, and if not changed regularly, the transmission can become damaged due to greater friction and overheating. In addition to damage caused to the transmission, this may also damage parts like the transmission pan, torque converter, and pan gasket.

Why Regular Transmission Fluid Changes Matter

           Prevent Wear and Tear

As transmission fluid ages, it cannot lubricate and cool effectively, and sometimes, a buildup of dirt and metal pieces occurs, which can damage internal parts and lead to more wear. Changing the transmission fluid often helps remove dirt and keeps the fluid working correctly.

           Improve Vehicle Performance

Dirty or old fluid can make it harder for your vehicle to shift gears and greatly diminish its performance while driving. This can also cause unusual noises in your transmission and even cause gears to skip. However, changing the transmission fluid regularly and on time will keep everything running smoothly and will keep your vehicle running at its highest performance.

           Extend Transmission Lifespan

Neglecting to check your transmission fluid may result in serious issues, such as overheating or gear failure, which can be expensive to repair. Regularly changing the fluid protects components like the torque converter and the transmission pan, helping to extend the lifespan of your vehicle's transmission.

           Avoid Expensive Repairs

Replacing a broken component of a car's system can be quite expensive. Regularly changing the fluid is a small expense that can help you save on repairs.

How Often Should You Change Transmission Fluid?

It depends on your car's make and model, as well as the type of transmission it has. Many car manufacturers recommend changing the fluid every 30,000 to 60,000 miles.

However, if you drive in difficult conditions, you might need to change it more frequently. Check your owner’s manual or consult a qualified technician for advice tailored to your car.

Don't Let Potholes Ruin Your Ride - Get Your Suspension Checked

Protect your vehicle from potholes with our expert suspension services.

This winter was a rough one in the El Cajon and La Mesa areas, with heavy rains leading to an abundance of potholes on local roads and highways. If you drive a luxury or performance vehicle like a Volvo, Lexus, BMW, Audi or Acura, these potholes can really take a toll on your car's suspension system.

Your shocks, struts, and other suspension components allow your vehicle to smoothly handle bumps and dips in the road while providing a comfortable ride. But repeatedly hitting large potholes can cause premature wear or even damage to these vital parts. When the suspension is worn out, you'll notice issues like:

Excessive bouncing or rocking after hitting bumps

             Nose dipping when braking

            Rear end squatting during acceleration

            Uneven tire wear

            Rattling noises over bumps

While the A/C system keeps the cabin cool and comfortable, your vehicle's cooling system is what keeps the engine's temperature regulated and prevents overheating. Crucial components like the radiator, water pump, thermostat, and hoses all need to be in good working order. Hot summer temperatures can really push these parts to their limits.

            - Over time, radiators can get clogged with built-up dirt, rust, and sediment deposits that restrict coolant flow and impact cooling efficiency. We'll completely flush out the old coolant and refill it with the correct type for your vehicle.

            Cooling System Pressure Test

             - Using specialized equipment, we'll pressure test the entire cooling system to identify any leaks in the radiator, water pump, hoses, or other components before a bigger problem occurs.

            Thermostat Replacement

             - Is your engine taking too long to warm up or overheating quickly? You may have a stuck thermostat that needs replacement.

As winter sets in and the weather turns colder, it's time to start thinking about how to prepare your vehicle for the challenges of winter travel. Whether you're facing rain, snow, or icy roads, taking the time to ensure your car is in top condition can make all the difference in your safety and peace of mind on the road.

At Auto Tech in El Cajon, we understand the importance of winterizing your vehicle and the role it plays in keeping you and your loved ones safe during the colder months. Preparing for Rain and Snow

Rain and snow can create hazardous driving conditions, from reduced visibility to slippery roads. To ensure your safety, it's essential to properly prepare your vehicle for these conditions.

           Check Your Tires

Your tires are your first line of defense against slippery roads. Make sure they have adequate tread depth and are properly inflated. Consider switching to winter tires for added traction in snow and ice.

           Inspect Your Wipers and Lights

Good visibility is crucial in rainy and snowy conditions. Replace worn wiper blades and ensure all your lights are working properly to see and be seen on the road.

           Top Up Fluids

Keep your windshield washer fluid topped up, and consider using a winter formula that won't freeze in cold temperatures. Additionally, check your coolant levels to prevent your engine from freezing.

           Pack an Emergency Kit

In case you find yourself stranded in inclement weather, it's essential to have an emergency kit in your car. Include items such as blankets, a flashlight, non-perishable snacks, and a shovel to help you stay safe until help arrives.

In addition to preparing for specific weather conditions, scheduling preventive maintenance before hitting the road during winter travel is crucial for several reasons.

Regular maintenance appointments allow our skilled technicians to identify and address any potential issues before they escalate into more significant problems. Catching and fixing minor issues early can prevent breakdowns and keep you from being stranded in the cold.

           What Are Shocks and Struts?

Before we dive into why inspecting and replacing your shocks and struts is important, let's understand what they are and what they do. Both shocks and struts are parts of your vehicle's suspension system and work together to absorb and dampen any impact from the road, providing a smooth and comfortable ride for the passengers inside the car.

Shocks are standalone hydraulic cylinders that are attached to the wheels and suspension system. They use hydraulic fluid to reduce any impact from the road and help control the movement of the wheels. Struts, on the other hand, are a more complex component that includes a coil spring and a shock absorber in one unit. Struts are typically found on the front wheels of most vehicles and provide structural support for the car's weight.

Why Inspect and Replace Your Shocks and Struts?

After a harsh winter, the roads are filled with potholes, cracks, and other obstacles that can damage your car's suspension system. It's essential to inspect and replace your shocks and struts regularly to maintain the integrity of your vehicle's suspension system. Neglecting to do so can cause a range of problems, including reduced stability, reduced handling, and increased tire wear.

            Safety:

Your car's suspension system plays a vital role in keeping you safe on the road. The shocks and struts are responsible for controlling the movement of your car and keeping the wheels on the road. Worn-out shocks and struts can lead to a range of safety issues, including increased stopping distance, reduced handling, and reduced stability when making turns.

           Comfort:

A damaged suspension system can also affect your car's comfort level. Worn-out shocks and struts can cause a bumpy and uncomfortable ride for passengers inside the car, leading to a higher chance of motion sickness, headaches, and other discomforts.

            Tire Wear:

Your car's suspension system also plays a crucial role in protecting your tires. Worn-out shocks and struts can cause your tires to wear unevenly, leading to shorter tire life and reduced performance.

            Fuel Efficiency:

A damaged suspension system can also affect your car's fuel efficiency. When your car's suspension system is compromised, the wheels are not properly aligned, leading to increased resistance and more energy required to move the car. This can cause a decrease in fuel efficiency and cost you more money at the pump.

When to Inspect and Replace Your Shocks and Struts?

The frequency of inspecting and replacing your shocks and struts can vary based on several factors, including driving conditions, mileage, and vehicle make and model. It's important to follow your vehicle's manufacturer guidelines and have your suspension system inspected regularly by a qualified mechanic. Generally, you should have your shocks and struts inspected every 50,000 miles and replaced every 80,000 miles.

In addition to regular inspections, there are a few signs that indicate your shocks and struts may need to be replaced, including:

           Bumpy and Uncomfortable Ride:

If you notice your car is bouncing or feels rough on the road, it may be a sign that your shocks and struts are worn out and need to be replaced.

            Poor Handling:

If you experience reduced stability when making turns or have difficulty controlling your car, it may be a sign that your shocks and struts are worn out and need to be replaced.

            Uneven Tire Wear:

If you notice that your tires are wearing unevenly, it may be a sign that your shocks and struts are not functioning properly. This can also cause your tires to wear out more quickly, reducing their lifespan.

           Leaking Fluid:

If you notice fluid leaking from your shocks or struts, it may be a sign that they are damaged and need to be replaced. This fluid helps to keep the shocks and struts lubricated, so any leaks can indicate a problem.

            Noise:

If you hear any unusual noises when driving, such as clunking or knocking sounds, it may be a sign that your shocks and struts are worn out and need to be replaced.

It's important to note that even if you don't notice any of these signs, regular inspections and replacements are still necessary to ensure the longevity and safety of your vehicle's suspension system.

           Conclusion

In conclusion, the suspension system is a critical component of your vehicle, and it's important to inspect and replace your shocks and struts regularly, especially after a harsh winter where thousands of new potholes have appeared. Neglecting to do so can cause a range of problems, including reduced safety, comfort, and fuel efficiency, as well as increased tire wear.

If you're experiencing any of the signs mentioned above, or if it's been some time since your last inspection, it's important to take your vehicle to a qualified mechanic for a thorough inspection. They can help identify any potential issues with your shocks and struts and recommend the necessary repairs or replacements to keep your vehicle running smoothly and safely. By taking care of your suspension system, you can ensure a comfortable and safe ride for you and your passengers, as well as extend the life of your tires and save money on fuel costs.

Auto Service for Maintaining Your Older Cars and Trucks

Quality service to keep your older cars and trucks running smoothly.

As your car gets older, it's important to make sure that you're keeping up with regular maintenance and auto service. Cars, trucks and vans that are older than 8 years old are more prone to wear and tear, and they may require more frequent auto service to keep them running smoothly. In this automotive blog post, we'll go over the regular auto service that you should be doing for cars that are older than 8 years old.

           Oil Changes

One of the most important things that you can do to keep your cars, trucks and vans running smoothly is to get regular oil changes. Over time, the oil in your car's engine can become dirty and contaminated, which can cause it to lose its lubricating properties. This can lead to increased wear and tear on your engine, which can ultimately lead to expensive repairs.

For cars, trucks and vans that are older than 8 years old, it's a good idea to get an oil change every 3,000 miles or 3 months, whichever comes first. This will help ensure that your engine stays properly lubricated and that you're not putting unnecessary strain on it.

           Brake Service

Another important part of regular auto service for older cars, trucks and vans is brake service. Your brakes are one of the most important safety features on your vehicle, and they need to be in good working order to keep you and your passengers safe.

For cars, trucks and vans that are older than 8 years old, it's a good idea to get a brake inspection every 6 months. During this inspection, your Auto Tech service technicians will check your brake pads, rotors, and calipers to make sure that everything is working properly. If they find any issues, the Auto Tech service Technician will recommend repairs or replacements to keep your brakes in good working order for your car, truck or van.

           Tire Service

Tires are another important part of your car's safety system, and they need to be in good condition to provide adequate traction and handling. For cars that are older than 8 years old, it's a good idea to get a tire inspection every 6 months.

During this inspection, your Auto Tech service technician will check the tread depth, pressure, and overall condition of your tires. They'll look for signs of wear and tear, and recommend repairs or replacements as needed. It's also a good idea to get your tires rotated every 6,000 to 8,000 miles to ensure even wear and prolong their lifespan. Auto Tech does not service tires, but has a tire shop service partner to replace worn out tires.

           Other Maintenance

In addition to these regular services, there are a few other maintenance tasks that you should be doing for cars that are older than 8 years old. These include:

Changing your air filter every 12,000 to 15,000 miles to ensure proper airflow to your engine

Getting a coolant flush every 2 years to prevent your engine from overheating

Getting a transmission service every 30,000 to 60,000 miles to ensure proper shifting and prevent damage to your transmission

In conclusion, regular auto service is crucial for cars that are older than 8 years old. By getting regular oil changes, brake service, tire service, and other maintenance, you can keep your car, truck or van running smoothly and prevent expensive repairs down the road. If you're not sure when your car, truck or van is due for service, consult your owner's manual or talk to Auto Tech service professionals at Auto Tech in El Cajon.

Getting Your Car Ready for Spring and Summer Travel

Prepare for road trips! Get your vehicle ready for spring and summer.

As the weather starts to warm up, many people are getting ready for spring and summer travel. Whether you're planning a road trip or just looking to take advantage of the beautiful weather, it's important to make sure that your car is in good shape before you hit the road. In this blog post, we'll go over the reasons why you should have your car serviced before the spring and summer travel season, as well as what you can expect during a typical auto repair appointment.

Why Service Your Car Before Spring and Summer Travel?

There are a few reasons why it's important to have your car serviced before the spring and summer travel season. First and foremost, regular maintenance can help prevent unexpected breakdowns and repairs. When you bring your car in for a service appointment, the technician will inspect all of the important systems and components, including the brakes, tires, suspension, and more. They'll look for signs of wear and tear, and make any necessary repairs or replacements to ensure that your car is running smoothly and safely.

Another reason to have your car serviced before the spring and summer travel season is that it can help improve your fuel efficiency. Over time, your car's engine can become dirty and clogged with debris, which can reduce its efficiency and performance. By having your car serviced, you'll be able to keep the engine running smoothly, which can help improve your gas mileage and save you money on fuel costs.

What to Expect During an Auto Repair Appointment

When you bring your car in for a service appointment, there are a few things that you can expect to happen. First, the technician will perform a visual inspection of your car, looking for any obvious signs of wear and tear or damage. They'll also ask you about any issues that you've been experiencing, such as strange noises or handling problems.

Next, the Auto Tech service technician will perform a more in-depth inspection of your car's systems and components. They'll check the brakes, tires, suspension, steering, and more to make sure that everything is working properly. If they find any issues, they'll make recommendations for repairs or replacements.

Finally, the Auto Tech service technician will perform any necessary repairs or maintenance, such as changing the oil, replacing the air filter, or rotating the tires. They may also recommend additional services based on the age and mileage of your car, such as a coolant flush or a transmission service.

In conclusion, having your car serviced before the spring and summer travel season is a smart move that can help prevent unexpected breakdowns and improve your fuel efficiency. If you're planning a road trip or just looking to take advantage of the beautiful weather, make sure to bring your car in for a service appointment to Auto Tech. Auto Tech's service technicians will perform a thorough inspection of your car's systems and components, and make any necessary repairs or maintenance to ensure that your car is running smoothly and safely.

New Year Letter from Auto Tech

Celebrate the new year with updates and insights from Auto Tech.

           Happy New Year,

As always, I skip New Year’s resolutions because they just don’t work. All this,” I’m going to lose weight work out more stay on top of paperwork etc.” just doesn’t work. This only happens with a plan not a statement of intent. Most resolutions are done by the end of January just a few make it to February and that’s about it. You can tell at the gym; they are packed the first two weeks of January then it tapers off. There is a statement I heard from our guide while white water rafting just before a grade five rapid. “You gotta want it” and that says it all.

I have noticed if you watch the Nightly News, you are going to learn about all the wonder drugs available. It’s not from the news, but from the ads. Now if you listen to all side effects, I wonder why anyone takes them. Sudden death in my book is not a side effect. I have recently tried to read dosages and side effects on a drug that was prescribed to me. I never knew there was a font that small. I tried a magnifying glass with a bright light, but it set the paper on fire. So, I went to the internet. I would have needed a medical professional to figure out what it said. Therefore, I take one a day like the vitamin we took as kids. So far, I haven’t grown a horn and I haven’t died, kind of disappointing. The only thing I have noticed is the price going up.

I received this text on New Year’s Day and I thought I would share it. “Good morning and welcome to 2023. We are taking off into the new year. Please be sure your positive attitude and gratitude are secured and locked in the upright position. All self-destruct devices: pity, anger, selfishness, pride, and resentment should be turned off at this time. All negative, hurt and discouragement should be put away. Should you lose your positive attitude during this flight under pressure reach up and pull down your faith. Your faith in your family and friends and whatever you have strong beliefs in. There will be no baggage on this flight. The captain has been cleared for takeoff. Destination: Greatness!!” I liked this because our lives are not about the news and politics. Our lives are about the people who surround us and how we interact. I am tired of hate speech, and everything associated with it. We as a people are much better than that. That’s all for now Good Luck in the New Year and Soldier On.

           Sincerely

           Season's Greetings,

I am trying to get this Holiday letter out on time which would be a first. This has been a crazy year like all of them. All my kids have moved out of the house, and I am searching for a new purpose in life. I no longer must follow my nose to find the spoiled milk cereal bowl stuck under a bed. I no longer come home to find a sink full of dirty dishes or dishes left all around the house. The shoes I became so adept at not tripping over are no longer there. I am a free man!!! But no wait a minute!!! My youngest girl drops her Bassett hound LuLu off for us to baby sit. If you want to win a war, drop off 10,000 Basset hounds on your enemy they will capitulate the first day. My introduction to LuLu was last Christmas when we left 1⁄2 a large pot roast on the dining room table to go get desert, inside of one minute she had gotten on the table and ate about 3 lbs. of pot roast. Since then, we have delt with her constantly figuring out how to be her most annoying self. I now have a purpose in life cleaning up after LuLu and trying to outsmart her. I am once again an indentured slave, this time to an insane dog, but she is cute.

I get many e mails from customers and friends feeding me filler for this letter. I truly appreciate the help. I received this following note to oneself and thought I would pass it on since I was talking about purpose in life. I also have a few funny sayings

           Note to Self

Tips For Keeping Up With Automotive Recalls You Need to Know

Stay informed about recalls to keep your vehicle safe and reliable.

You hear about automotive recalls all the time in the newspaper, on the Internet, as well as on the nightly news. Amazingly, one in 12 cars traveling the roads today were recalled for one reason or another in 2003. However, even more amazing is the fact that only one third of the owners of the recalled vehicles chose to take their car in for the needed repairs. The car manufacturers are required to send out letters informing owners of these vehicles of the recall, regardless of whether it is a major or minor event. Also, the information regarding the recall is delivered to consumers in so many different mediums it is almost impossible that owners of the affected vehicles do not learn of the problems. However, people seem to think that if they are not experiencing any problems at the moment then the recall affects all of the other vehicles instead of theirs and end up ignoring the recall. This is negligence and simply asking for the problem with the car to crop up. However, if this happens after the recall then it is the owners fault because they were given the information and allowed to fix the problem free of charge yet they simply ignored it. As long as car manufactures report the recall and inform owners of the vehicles as they are required to do by law, it is up to the consumer to take advantage of the recall and have their automobile fixed. If not, then the owner is taking the risk. If you have not heard anything about automotive recalls or just bought a used vehicle and want to find out if the manufacturer issued any automotive recalls then you should check out www.nhtsa.gov or www.autorecalls.org to see if your car is listed.

Both of these websites have all the information about automotive recalls over the past years so you can search through the year, make, and model of a vehicle to see if yours is listed. It is very likely you will see your car listed on one of these website because more than 31 million cars were recalled in 2004. That is almost unbelievable considering the amount of technology used in developing cars as well as the fact that cars are safer than they have ever been. However, it is true that mistakes are still taking places and consumers are buying vehicles with basic problems like fuses or major problems with gas lines, tires, and seats buckling in crashes. Regardless of whether or not you believe you are driving a safe car you need to check out the websites stated above every few months just to make sure your vehicle has not ended up on the list. If it has, don’t fall into the two thirds of individuals who never respond to the recall. Instead, head to the nearest dealership or authorized mechanic who can make the free repairs to your vehicle. Why so many people don’t have time for free repairs is beyond me, but knowing your vehicle has a problem that could be potentially fatal for you and your family and that a free repair is available should be enough to motivate you to have the repair taken care of.

Another thing to keep in mind is that simple problems with your vehicle that result in a visit to the mechanic may not be a problem you are required to pay for. Millions of Americans each year take their cars to the mechanic for a basic repair, or even a major one, assuming something went wrong and they simply need to fix it. Unfortunately, many of these individuals never check to see if the problem was due to an automotive recall and end up paying for a repair that might be free or discounted by the automobile manufacturer. So, armed with this knowledge the next time your vehicle has even the slightest problem make sure you check and see if the car has been recalled for similar problems and if you can get free repairs or discounted ones at the least. It is certainly worth checking out and could save you hundreds or even thousands of dollars.

           Who Issues Automotive Recalls?

In general, the reason so many people don’t respond to recalls is because they simply don’t understand the recall process. The NHTSA , National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration, is responsible for investigating consumer complaints regarding specific vehicles and problems associated with them. After several consumers have reported the same or similar problem to the NHTSA for the same model vehicle an investigation is launched. The point of the NHTSA investigation is to determine whether the consumer caused the problem or malfunction in some way or if the manufacturer of the vehicle is at fault. If the manufacturer is determined to be at fault then the owners of affected models will receive information in the mail regarding the recall of the vehicle with information included on how they can have the problem corrected free of charge. However, the NHTSA is not always the one who issues an automotive recall.

Occasionally, the manufacturer realizes a problem exists in a certain model vehicle and will voluntarily issue a recall. Of course, the NHTSA is informed as well, and the same letter is sent to owners of the vehicle letting them know the problem with the vehicle and how to correct it. Many times, however, a recall does not affect all models of a particular year. For example, if a recall is issued on 2005 Ford Explorers more than likely it will only affect a certain batch of these vehicles and not all of them. However, if you own a vehicle of that make and year then you can take it to the dealership and the service department will run the VIN, or vehicle identification number, to determine if in fact your vehicle is affected by the recall. If so, then you can have the repairs made at no cost. If not, then you can head home knowing your vehicle is safe and sound.

Just keep in mind, however, each year millions of cars are recalled for various reasons and you should always take your car in if you suspect the recall might apply to your vehicle or if you receive a recall letter. Don’t take your safety for granted, especially if the repair for the recalled vehicle is free.

Take Recall Notices Seriously

Don’t ignore recall notices! Learn why they’re crucial for safety.

Here at Auto Tech, safety is our number one goal for our customers. This includes making sure you are aware of all outstanding safety issues and recalls. There is one very important safety check you can do, on your vehicle, from home: checking for vehicle recalls.

Now, you may be thinking that there is no way your car has a safety recall out on it; you would’ve been notified, in the mail, on the phone, or in your e-mail. But mail gets misplaced or thrown out, phone calls get forwarded to voicemail boxes that are not yet set up, and e-mails get mass deleted or ignored.

It is important to check that your car does not have a safety recall and the good news is checking is very easy to do! You can take your VIN number (found on your vehicle’s registration or insurance card) to one of the following websites: www.checktoprotect.org or www.nhtsa.gov/recalls.

Expert A/C repair services for your Toyota to keep you cool all summer.

Cars are undoubtedly one of our daily necessities. We use them not only for our everyday transportation but as well as in hauling loads, carrying cargoes and many others. Through the years, they have been greatly improved, Including Toyota cars. Not only in terms of performance, safety and style but as well as in terms of comfort features, just to catch up with our growing demands. Power operated auto parts became commonplace. Almost everything functions with just a push on a button. Image pushing the button and nothing happens with your A/C. Now you need Toyota A/C repair services by Auto Tech.

Today, almost all cars come with an air conditioning system that keeps the driver and the passenger cabin comfortable even during the hottest days of the year. The introduction of the air conditioning and heat system was indeed a milestone in the auto industry. It afforded users the same comfort levels they enjoy at home or even at the office.

At the heart of this system is the Toyota AC Condenser. This part is the one in charge of dissipating heat absorbed from the car’s interior. It works on the same principle as the Toyota Radiator, which on the other hand cools the engine. Usually, the air flowing through the a/c condenser is supplemented by the Toyota Condenser Fan. Other vehicles, especially the rear wheel drives take advantage of the air drawn by the engine’s cooling fan.

A faulty A/C system means great discomfort on your part so if your Toyota A/C system isn’t functioning due to damaged auto parts, make sure you replace the defective part or parts immediately to avoid inconveniences. Especially when you are using your car on long drives, replacing it is necessary. A long drive can be very tiring and annoying; but with an efficient A/C system you are sure to arrive at your destination more comfortably.

Of course, you can’t control the weather, the heavy traffic and all other factors that affect your comfortable ride but you can do something on your car to make it more conducive for any driving situation. Replacing your faulty A/C system parts with high quality replacement Toyota parts is a way to make your ride enjoyable.

For your A/C condenser needs or any other A/C repairs your vehicle needs Auto Tech has the right tools and expertise to keep you and your car running cool.

When you are looking for a qualified Toyota repair center, you have come to the right place. Toyota has been producing car and truck models that have consistently ranked high in both the US and Japan market. Specifically the Toyota Camry and the remodeled Toyota Corolla are some of the best rated cars in the world. Many of these models are made here in America.

A well maintained vehicle can last for tens of thousands of miles if you. Proper maintenance is the best thing you can do for your investment.

Your Volvo needs regular check-ups and maintenance. Regular oil changes with Auto Tech will often ensure that not only do you have plenty of oil in your car, but many will check your other fluid levels as well. As the car ages, we will also alert you to any Volvo S70 or Volvo V70 parts you may need. These regular check-ups are recommended at every 3,000 miles.

In order to maintain safe and reliable transportation, it is also vital that you have your tires rotated and balanced every 5,000 to 10,000 miles. With all the safety features that a Volvo has it can’t do anything to protect you should you have a blow out. By rotating your tires on a regular basis you will be ensuring that there is equal wear on all of the tires. Tires develop wear patterns over a certain period of time. If the tires are not regularly rotated then the tread will wear off on in certain areas, which may make it difficult for you to get the proper traction. This can be dangerous during wet weather. They may also wear thin in areas, which may lead to a blowout.

When you do get to a point in which you need to replace parts on your Volvo, you are better off using factory Volvo S70 parts or Volvo V70 parts. Factory equipment parts are made specifically for Volvo’s and ensure that each replacement part is just as safe as the original. If you hear any funny noises coming from your car, listen to it and have them checked out. This is often the first sign that something needs tweaked or repaired.

Maintaining your car’s appearance will keep your Volvo looking great for the thousands of miles you plan to drive it. It is recommended that your Volvo is washed regularly and waxed at least twice per year. Even if you are hard on your car, it doesn’t have to look like it.

Regular maintenance of your Volvo will keep it looking great and running great for the many miles to come.

Happy Holidays for 2017

Wishing you a wonderful holiday season filled with joy and cheer!

           Dear Customer,

It’s that time of year when I have waited until the last minute, in anticipation of “Full Contact Christmas Shopping” and deliver a late newsletter. I have worked diligently with the dog playing tug-a-war, so I have the arm strength to pull pink cloud pajamas or what-ever away from grandmas’ last-minute shopping for the grandchildren. I also love the mall parking lot. This is a total dog-eat-dog atmosphere where no holiday spirit is ever found. The name ‘mall’ should be spelled m-a-u-l because it is more like a gladiator pit than a group of stores. Some people dread going out into this mayhem; I thrive on it. No other time of year can you preach “peace and love” while going into full attack mode in the parking lot. You have got to love it.

Now that you all know why I love the holidays, it’s time for me to wish you a Merry “whatever you celebrate” (just being PC). I hope you and your family enjoyed the holidays and have much love and laughter in the New Year. Hopefully, you did not make any New Year’s Resolutions; they only last two to three weeks at best. If you’re going to change something about your life, do it in February. No one ever asks about February resolutions, so there is no external pressure. You just do what you want at your speed and get it done.

I want to take this time to thank all of you for supporting us for 35 years. We have truly made some good friends in this business. Many of you had kids in cars seats when you first started coming here. Now your kids are bringing in their vehicles with cars seats in them. As they say, the beat goes on. It has been fun watching families grow and progress, and it has been nice having customers that are interested in my family and well-being. Nobody ever talks about this side of having a small business; it’s the main reason I enjoy what I do. I don’t buy all this talk about the country being divided, and we are full of hate. This stuff makes headlines and panders to extreme individuals that represent a very small segment of our population. When you hear about a plane crash or a disaster you listen for affected Americans. You’re not thinking about their color or faith, just that a fellow American is in trouble or needs help. So long as we keep our value system to judging one person at a time, we will be fine.

I do not have a lot to say about vehicles at this time of year, other than promising that we will continue to do our best to keep you safe and secure in your vehicle in 2018 and beyond.

           Best Wishes

Spring Rains Springs Flowers

Prepare your vehicle for spring rains and blooming flowers ahead!

           Dear Client,

This is my spring edition of what’s wrong with Toms world. Let’s see, the rains brought the roof leaks, which in turn, brought the wall repair in my daughter’s room which led to the discovery of termites. I am all in favor of urban renewal, but not at my house. Normally this time of year, my complaint is about weeds. But, all the house repair has distracted me from my true life drama of man against nature. Of course nature brought all this on but, it has changed to man against insurance company, roofing contractor, pest control companies and building contractors. All of whom are too busy to stop by and give us a price quote. So I think I am just going to start weeding to help me forget about all the other problems. Actually, it is very therapeutic.

Vehicles are in the news lately talking about autonomous vehicles that will drive themselves they will learn as they go with their artificial intelligence. I have been accused by many family members of having artificial intelligence which I took as a compliment, I think. Anyway this raises all kinds’ problems if your vehicle listens to you while you’re driving and learns your bad habits. If it sees you mash your foot on the accelerator when the traffic light turns yellow, it may think this is a good thing to do. How about your language when someone cuts you off or takes your parking space, you may end up with a fowl- mouthed Siri giving you directions like “stop the dam car,” stupid,” or worse!

Secondly, what if your vehicle gets a bad attitude? Will I have to be trained in the behavioral sciences for automobiles in essence, becoming a car whisperer? What if your vehicle develops a fear of heights or tight places? What if your truck decides it likes a pretty sports car and starts chasing it? The what if’s are immense with this issue and it is going to make my job a lot harder. It used to be you learned about new technologies but now the learning curve encompasses personality traits that vehicles have learned from their owners. Remember the book and the movie Christine by Stephen King about the 1958 Plymouth that was possessed, I don’t think we are too far from that in real life.

I am thankful that the rains have stopped and the wildflowers and plants are happy. I am also thankful to you, our customers for supporting us and being our friends. Without you we would not exist. We are starting a new preventive maintenance program. We will check what the Factory maintenance is on your vehicle at whatever mileage you are at, if there are any recalls or technical service bulletins that have to be done. We would much rather keep your car running right all the time and keep you off the side of the road which is a very dangerous place. Vehicles, if maintained correctly last a very long time, saving you money and giving you peace of mind. We wish all of you a great spring, enjoy it because it will be hot soon enough.

           Thanks Again

Sending warm holiday wishes from everyone at Auto Tech!

           Dear Client,

Let’s start with wishing you Happy Holidays. I don’t want you to have any guilt trips so I give you permission to eat, drink and be merry as much as you want. I know you will anyway so enjoy it all. Who cares what the surgeon general says, what’s he know.

You might wonder why this letter is in script, I for one still like the personality script gives to the written word and don’t think it should be done away with. I also think we need to be kind to one another and to listen to people’s opinions that differ from our own. Maybe something would get done.

I believe a conspiracy is taking place that has been set up by the worldwide pillow cartel. Every place I go from here to Canada to the East Coast you can’t put your butt down unless you move a pillow. At first I thought it was just my wife that had been stricken with pillow mania but it is everywhere I go. You can’t find a couch or bed for all the pillows on them. You need to take a picture of them so you know how to put them back exactly the way they came off or you will make someone mad. I don’t know how this cartel got into everyone’s head probably the ads on T V have subliminal messages to buy more pillows than you can ever use.

In this holiday season our wish for you is to have a safe enjoyable holiday season and may the New Year bring you good health, be prosperous and enjoy the gifts of faith, family and friends.

I was going to write a letter in early spring—but it’s late spring—and, if I’m lucky, it will be out before summer. The one thing I like about California is the seasons. You can have all four of our seasons in one week: hot and sunny, cold and gray, rainy, and cool and mild, or all that could actually be in one day! You’ve got to love it. How about this presidential race? No matter what side you’re on, if any, this one has beaten all the others hands down; very entertaining. The question is: where is Ralph Nader when you need him?

I found out something very interesting: my shoe size. For years I bought shoe size 10 ½ e width. My foot has been the same size since I was 12 years old, or so I thought. Then, I went to buy some expensive hiking boots for a trip we were going on, and my foot measured size 12. This could explain the last 50 years I have spent in anger and pain that could have been eliminated by having my foot measured each year. I have quit taking all those special drugs to quell the anger and kill the foot pain (just kidding). Seriously don’t buy shoes off the shelf without measuring your foot accurately. This is a public service announcement and I approve this message. Maybe our politicians are suffering from the same thing; they seem awfully mean.

With the end of the school year, my house is intermittently full of young adults who don’t put anything away, burn gasoline like it’s going out of style, make dirty dishes and never clean them unless threatened with loss of a vehicle, and keep their rooms in such a mess, EPA cleanup crews would fear to tread there. So, in other words, young is the key word—adult, not so much. I have been told by wiser people that this is only a temporary state which will transition into a long-lasting friendship. Due to my age and disposition to be a realist, this sounds like a lot of BS—I mean fairy tale—we must be PC you know. I am happy to spend time with my kids, I am just worried that if a big earthquake hits while I am in their room, no one will ever find me.

So much for my take on life this spring; I would like to thank you again for your support. Without you, we would be nothing. We have instituted a quality control program of calling you after a repair to make sure everything has gone well and you are happy with the result. My daughter Amanda is handling that. I know having your vehicle repaired is about as much fun as paying taxes, but at least you know the money goes to a good cause—paying tuition for college. Hope you had a good spring and be safe this summer.

Looks like another year has gone by, it’s the Holidays and it feels like summer just ended. That’s probably because all the hot weather in the fall made it feel like summer. There is no global warming it’s just a heck of a lot hotter for longer periods of time than it used to be. I want to thank you again for all your support over the past 33 years without you we would be nothing. I wish you the best for the holidays and the coming year.

As usual I have a few suggestions on New Year’s Resolutions. A New Year’s Resolution needs to be attainable in a short period of time, they say to change a habit or create one takes 21 days, and this is much too long. It’s got to be simple, like take more time for yourself, eat more ice cream and less kale, if you include lose weight or workout more that has to be a habit it will most likely not happen. If you want to lose weight get smaller plates like the Europeans have, their plate’s holds half of what an American plate holds, that doesn’t mean that you fill it up twice. When you park your car, park it as far away from your destination as safely possible that way you get exercise every day without trying. I want everybody to make a New Year’s Resolution to check at www.nhtsa.gov/ website, see the button under the Takata sign to put your vehicle I.D.number in to see if you need to have your air bags replaced. The dealers do it at no cost to you and by doing this you could save yourself from a very bad experience in the future. We are hoping for a safe and healthy 2016.

All our kids are home for the Holidays so they are hitting me up for money so they can go buy gifts. So in reality I get to pay for everyone’s gifts so I must be the Secret Santa. I can tell form my waistline and beard that I am trying to even look like Santa.

Auto Tech will be open through the Holidays we will close early on the eves and be closed Christmas and New Year ’s Day.

What Fall Brings in 2015

Prepare your vehicle for fall with essential maintenance services.

           Dear Friends,

I don’t know whether to write a fall letter or just another summer letter. When it seems like fall weather begins to start it gets super-hot and its summer all over again. The weather people want to have California declared a disaster area before the first drop of rain. El Niño the next Armageddon, get the sand bags ready check to see if you live in a flood plain, man the pumps, remove the hillsides behind your house and build an ARC. Every time they talk up rain it never shows up, it’s the same in football, the announcer says the field goal kicker hasn’t missed in 35 attempts and he misses the next kick. They need to just be quiet so they don’t jinx us. We need rain that’s for sure and I believe we should all be prepared for whatever comes but let’s not get the horse before the cart.

What do you think of this presidential primary race? There are so many candidates for the Republicans I can’t keep track. I do know if The Donald gets elected there will be no bad hair days for the next four years. If Clinton gets elected the black pants suit will be vogue. The truth is Forest Gumps mother was right life is like a box of chocolates you never know what you’re going to get till you bite into it the same goes for politics.

This summer was very interesting. My daughter Amanda was able to have two accidents in one day with my Ford Expedition (Urban Assault Vehicle) first she rear ended someone then she comes home and hits my Classic 64 Ford F200 with my Expedition. Life with teenagers is an expedition in itself. Good thing I believe life is a comedy of errors because there has to always be a funny side to everything even if you have to strain to see it. My son has started college AT SDCC and my youngest is back at Valhalla in her junior year. They all have one thing in common they really try to do as little as possible around the house, it would be easier to drive a mule team up a mountain than to get them to put their own dish in the dishwasher. I can’t wait till they have their own place so I can go over for a visit turn all the lights on run the a/c with the windows open and leave a trail of dirty dishes and glasses everywhere. Sounds like fun to me. As I have said before I do love them I just don’t know why.

Did you know this month is Car Care Month and we offer a free courtesy inspection with any paid service or if you have a check engine light we will read the codes for free and tell you if you need further diagnostics or not. If you have a noise and you don’t know what it is, call us and set up a free road-test. Seeing that a thousand year flood took place in the Carolinas we may get a two thousand year flood in California so make sure your getaway vehicle is in good shape. I do have a question how do you know if you have a thousand year flood? Was the national weather service started by the indigenous people of this country? They were the only ones here so we must have taken it over from them along with everything else.

In closing I would like to say thanks for your support over the years having good customers makes a business like mine fun not just work.

Feels like it’s time for what I did on my summer vacation newsletter. Since I have already had my vacation I normally would have some mishap or problem that I could expound upon, no such luck. Everything went smoothly except going through the security in the airport. Just recently I have grown a beard and mustache to look a little more macho (edgy) and to hide sun spots, age spots or liver spots you choose I couldn’t tell you the difference they just make me look uglier than I already am. So when my turn comes up to show my boarding pass and license they send me to a special place to expedite my security process. So now I’m a little upset, as edgy as I think I look they looked at my license saw my age and decided I posed no threat what so ever and barely even checked me. That’s age discrimination my macho image of myself was completely deflated. So what did I do? Everything they told me to do, I guess they were right, I’m harmless.

There is something new we are about to institute in our service reminder process. After your service we are going to set you up with a tentative date for your next service. Prior to the service we will e-mail you or call which ever you prefer and make sure that dates ok or change it to something that works for you. The reason behind this is we have been seeing a lot of slugged engine lately created by extended oil services. People forget and go well over ten thousand miles on their services and this can lead to sludgeing in the engine which creates very large repair bills sometimes past the value of the vehicle. Since your vehicle is your second largest investment in your lifetime protecting it with preventative maintenance you get the best bang for your buck. If you follow the factory recommended maintenances there should be no reason not to get well over 200,0000 miles out of any vehicle built in the last 15 years.

Well so much for shop talk. I hope all of you have a happy and healthy summer. If you’re going to travel in your own personal vehicle make sure it has been thoroughly checked out so you have a safe and trouble free trip.

Spring Brings New Opportunities

Spring is the perfect time for fresh starts and vehicle check-ups.

           Dear Patron,

How’s that? I used a new beginning Patron instead of customer. I use that term Patron because all of you are my Patron Saints for keeping our business alive and well through a very tough economic time. It is spring when new things are popping up all around us. Flowers are blooming, baby animals are being born in the wild as well as in the Zoo and Wild Animal Park. And the State of California has a new plan for handling the drought signed by the Governor and endorsed by the legislature. Now I know we are considered the land of fruits and nuts so this plan is perfect. We are in the fourth year of a severe drought so this plan has earmarked 60% of the money to go to flood control. Now don’t get me wrong I like to be prepared, Noah was prepared and everybody thought he was nuts, maybe someone of a higher source has spoken to our state government officials or maybe it was contractors that would benefit from this policy. So much for my uneducated assumption but wouldn’t getting more water sources make sense at this time instead of protecting against floods. What do I know, I’m just a plain old citizen.

So much for make believe let’s talk about the real meat and potatoes of spring. Weed abatement, pollen count and taxes. I think we could learn a lot from studying weeds. They grow with no water, they survive pesticides and attacks of all forms. They give off pollen as a counter attack and they have the fire department threaten us if we don’t remove them. When I spray them with weed killer I think I can hear them laughing at me. If you want to get rid of terrorist groups drop weed seed not bombs on them. In a few years they will be so busy killing weeds and sneezing and coughing they won’t have the time or energy for Jihad. I know this might be against the Geneva Convention but sometimes you just have to just think outside the box to get a plan that would work.

If you are wondering about the content of this letter I made the mistake of reading the newspaper which gave me endless amounts of cannon fodder to write this letter. Now about me, my family still consists of three teenage children against two adults, the adults are severely out numbered. The only things that give me a chance at keeping my sanity is my wife, my dogs the rabbit and guinea pig. They are consistent day in and day out they love me (except the guinea pig) and I love them (except the guinea pig). My kids build my character every day, making me more internally strong and able to bite my lip in most situations. I know one day they will be adults and I will miss these times and I do love them dearly, I just don’t know why. Well that about wraps it up you have my latest take on world news, local events and family. I hope you have a safe and happy spring, will be in touch in the summer. Thanks again for all the support over the years, without you we are nothing.

Well the holidays are upon us and this year I am getting my holiday letter out on time, I think. It seems like holiday stuff has been in the stores since Labor Day, somehow when it is ninety + degrees outside I just can’t get in the holiday spirit. Now that it has gotten cooler I think I am in the spirit to over eat, drink, spend and be merry. Now that my kids have gotten older I don’t have to fake all the Santa stuff and I can give those gifts like underwear and pimple cream that don’t have batteries and no assembly. Mind you there are down sides to growing older but one of the the upsides is the holidays have gotten a lot easier. No more having to build toys through the night, no more trying to fake reindeer and sleigh tracks in the backyard. If the kids don’t like their gifts you give them a gift receipt and tell them to return it. Some people call this Humbug Bah attitude, I call it holiday spirit, rejoice in the freedom. As usual I like to address New Year’s Resolutions. Why would you think something might change in you because of a date change? Goals that are set this way rarely ever come to fruition. Make simple small goals (like eating more cookies) that are attainable any time of year this way you don’t start the New Year off disappointed in yourself and you actually get something done.

During this time of year I like to reflect on the past years in this business all 31 of them (if I can remember) the friends I have made, long time business relationships, how some things have changed but many things have stayed the same. The one thing that is consistent is to treat people as you would like to be treated, it sure makes life in this business a lot easier. I would like to thank you for your patronage and trust over the years and the friendships and humor. Thanks for reading my letters, they have been a lot of fun to write and I plan on writing a lot more.

In this holiday season our wish for you is to have a safe enjoyable holiday season with little to no stress and may the New Year bring you good health, be prosperous and enjoy the gifts of faith, family and friends.
